Places like that certainly increase the opportunity for people to try various operations to see what they like.
I live just a few miles away and had no idea. Something to look in to.
Marty, you are becoming NZ’s answer to Andrew Camerata. Be warned that he does so well with his YouTube subscriptions and income, he is forever buying used equipment that needs a wee fix, and he is running out of room to park it. Fortunately he has a long drive so leaves a few machines on the approach to his workshop and castle.
The 4.5 taper isn’t that odd. It’s the taper for the D1-3 and the L-00 mounts. Both fairly common.
I bought one of the first Hot Shot 1200s. Pretty good unit.

Nice selection a smaller bandsaws. The dual wood/metal saw is nice, and that craftsman saw is a workhorse if maintained properly (I have the "electronic" version- nothing special, just displays things you could easily check otherwise).
Good…
Good idea…
Like all information
I lived in West Knoxville for 10 years. All 3 of my boys were born there. What was I thinking to move back to the North? Love East Tennessee and Knoxville particularly.
Thanks Keith. First I’ve heard of this type of businesses.
Outstanding shop 👍
We have a few of these in the UK but I wasn’t really aware of them. Near-ish to me there’s a group that run ‘activity shops’ whether knitting or less machining woodworking (mostly hand tools with the odd hand electric tool).
One thing I have heard of over here – if they’re still going are ‘renta garages’ – dunno what they call them but if you want to work on a car and don’t have the tools or space, you can take your car to one of these places and borrow tools (including use of a ramp/lift) to work on your own vehicle. Anything like that in the US?
WoW that place looks great
Fantastic! I’ve heard of Knox Makers, but didn’t have any information about it until now. I’ll be there this Tuesday for certain. I’ve started my own small machine shop in a home basement, but I need help to get it up off the ground. Any information on membership fees?
Awesome video, wish we had maker spaces close to me
One of the better shop tours on the Tube. Thank you for finding and sharing this place.
Total nerd bait… I loved this one. really cool
why are all men in USA who are active in restoring old machinery grossly obese?
Super cool area and super great resource for the folks in that area! Thanks for the visit Keith and Billy!
Thanks for the tour, and Billy’s a great guys to be part of the set up.
Well dang! I need to keep a closer eye on you. That’s just down the street from my office. Wish I could have shook your hand, Keith.
Cool 😎
Are you guys related? There is a bit of resemblance there
Thanks for an enjoying hour. The "new faces" contributed well, as the "veterans" also did.
I’ve allways wanted to have a maker’s place in my city
Thanks for the great comments everyone! I had fun doing the tour and hope to see Keith again. Maker Spaces (Also some times called Hacker Spaces) are a really neat concept. Great for all sorts of community types. People living in small houses, apartments, renting/leasing that don’t have the space for a workshop, tools, or even the skills. Also great for just sharing knowledge and being in a community of people who like to build and make things.
Nice vid, im from Australia i could listen two yuor Southern Accents all day can you tell where some folk are from by there accents? example Georgie Alabama Florida Arkansaw Carolina etc. i know the question is a little bit different but i was just curious. Any Southern folk feel free to Answer.
nice camera, great video Keith
In the SF bay area, we’ve had many maker spaces go under. I’ve never been to one, because I didn’t want to go through the hassle of auditing my skill set, but there have been a few times I wish I had access to TiG at 2 in the morning. That surface grinder could also be a Republic/Lagun. It’s looks very close to the one I have. If so, the manual is unobtainium. I’ve been looking for years.
He’s a nice guy. I’ll check out his channel.
That surface grinder is 100% a Harig 612. I’ve got one just like it.
Glad to see you al are doing so well! Do you guys still have the 1st class airline seats? I left those with you place before I moved.
Nice place! They need to establish a Foundry in that new area they’re going to get. Super place!
If they had these maker spaces in the UK I’d never be home….never seen this before. Its an awesome idea.
wow did not now! makerspace
Nice!!
Great tour and shop 👍😀
I live about 1.5 hrs drive from this maker space. I had heard about this before, but it was a bit far to drive. Now I’m even more tempted. Thanks for this shop tour!
Very nice video thanks for sharing.

Very nice!
Billy is very dedicated to running this maker space. Great opportunity for people to use all manner of tools they don’t own or have room for.
Awesome! I’m in knoxville looking for opportunities to get into blacksmith and machining. Thanks!
Hiya Keith
Thanks Keith – I did the same tour, your video was way better. I’ve done a lot of videos but never and interview/tour video. I learned a lot! Ha.
I would LOVE.. one of these places to be near me!
That MSC lathe looks like a rebadged Precision Matthews.
It is nice to see your new apron; the older one was getting pretty greasy and tired!
Awesome what a great community service and asset! Enjoyed the tour! Thanks!
