  4. SleepDroid Studios on January 16, 2019 at 8:11 pm

Digging the videos. I can’t wait until we move and I can make my shop/garage area legit. I’m finally going to focus on doing things right and totally organized. I’ve gotten a lot of great ideas already watching your videos.

Do you still have your forge?

  7. JM Lav on January 16, 2019 at 8:14 pm

happy for you but all this equipment is like I can’t follow anything you do now. sad.

  8. Gerry Kaplan on January 16, 2019 at 8:14 pm

I am in the process of setting up my woodshop. Originally I was slated to get the same Powermatic jointer that you show in this video except due to it coming as one piece, we could not figure out a way to get it into my basement. A 700lb machine that’s 84" x 25 could not make it around 4’x4′ landing leading into the basement. So instead we are going with the 60HH 8" jointer. The primary difference is one is dovetail adjustment vs parallelogram on the one you have. Have you used a non parallelogram jointer and would I be better off to locate another company that has a helical head AND parallel, or do you think the 60HH 8" jointer will be just fine? Just curious on your perspective. BTW your shop looks awesome and I want to build the outfeed table as one of my first projects.

Will your forge let you heat treat your knives? If so, it’s a keeper

  10. Aaron Passmore on January 16, 2019 at 8:16 pm

What if you actually have a cat?

I’m interested in getting started in wood working. What are some of the basic tools I should first purchase? I am apprentice electrician and have some hand tools, an impact driver, and a normal drill.

  15. PracticalBuilds on January 16, 2019 at 8:26 pm

Micro jig, maker of the gripper.

  16. kerry brath on January 16, 2019 at 8:26 pm

Great stuff, like to see an orderly shop. Good luck with that LG air conditioner, EVERYONE I know that owned one had it go bad on them (about nine people, my self included)

  17. MiKKi on January 16, 2019 at 8:26 pm

Awesome tour! I saw comments about people not being able to follow along with your videos because they can’t afford the equipment you have. I noticed you said that many projects you do can be done with common tools. Maybe you could do videos showing one way to do it with your expensive equipment, and then another way using common tools/equipment–sort of like a woodworking version to ChrisFix’s youtube channel. This way more people will be able to follow along, allowing you to reach more of an audience. It’s more work for you though, so it just depends on how much you value those members of your audience. Most people who have invested in expensive equipment probably know more than a thing or two already 🤷‍♀️

Loved the shop man its awesome. Can you give me some sort of advise what tools i need to buy first being an aspirant woodworker? Thank man and more power to you..

  19. Philip Shremshock on January 16, 2019 at 8:28 pm

Ok, the presentation was good , however , I like all the choice of tools , but these are mostly top shelf tools , have several pride and joys myself , big fan of powermatic, great tools ,and how they do last , my shop has 2 ten inch table saws with power feeds ,all powermater , but they are from when the cases were green , before they changed to gold , also have 2 CNC machines now , both Morbedelli . i’m the Shop Manager/working forman /production manager /and shop teacher lol of Brave CWS , I do not own the company , owner gets the work , I get it done , I ask for the equipment and in time it appears ,https://www.builtincabinet.com/

We also have an edgebanding machine , and a few Grizzly tools which with a little tweecking here and there aren’t to tearable , I’m hugh fan of Festool , but it’s expensive , but like anyother tool maker they do have a few dudes , only my opinion, have many of their tools , personally love the mitersaw and track saw , made sure our install crew had the tracksaw on the truck , for the hobbiy shop big investment , these are all top of the line tools be prepared for sticker shock .

    Hey Johnny,
Love your videos and builds. You do a great job of making everything accessible and easy to understand for people who have any level of experience or equipment.

I just watched this video and you obviously have an insanely well equipped shop… I admit I haven’t gotten around to watching all of your older videos, but how quickly did you acquire these tools and space?

Does your woodworking fund your equipment? Or did you/do you have a day job that earned you the money needed to upgrade? What was the process?

I understand that now, obviously as an established YouTuber with sponsors you’re getting a lot of great equipment from those companies, but can you take me through the tool acquisition process a bit?

I’m an experienced woodworker, and I often feel limited by space and equipment more than my own skill (I know I know, a poor craftsman blames his tools) but financially I just can’t afford the upgrades, which limits the size and scope of what I can build, which holds me back from making the kind of money I believe is attainable from my woodworking.

Would just love to hear from a fellow woodworker how you built up to where you are now!

    Thanks again!

Great vid I’m 14 and take GCSE woodwork at school Iv just asked my dad for the old brick shed and He agreed I could have it but need to clean it out and I’m going to make it into a workshop so this vid has really helped me with ideas and what things I should buy

Great tour. Rude Q but did you buy all that stuff from your pocket or have you had some gift kit from manufacturers (powermatic stuff acknowledged)?

  25. Michael Chase on January 16, 2019 at 8:33 pm

Nice workshop and you have some of my favorite equipments.. just bought the sawstop 3hp. working on turning my two car garage into a small workshop. Really like your outfeed/assembly table.. nice video..

  30. OpposingForces on January 16, 2019 at 8:38 pm

festool tools are awesome. worked in a shop where we used a plunging saw with a clamp on track and that thing cut so cleanly you didn’t even have to sand it. just the corners as those were super sharp.

  31. Clyde Hunt on January 16, 2019 at 8:38 pm

I love your videos Johnny. Keep’em coming

  32. whytas on January 16, 2019 at 8:38 pm

    Amazing sir

  33. Michael McDonald on January 16, 2019 at 8:44 pm

By the shop setup I assume being a content creator is your main income opposed to selling woodworks as main income?

  34. Chris Neocleous on January 16, 2019 at 8:47 pm

Hey Johnny enjoyed the tour a ton. Hey what is the largest object you can fit into your laser cutter and what thickness

  35. Oliver Frank on January 16, 2019 at 8:48 pm

Shop looks incredible man. Any possibility you could be a little more clear on who you’re sponsored by/have been sent free stuff by? Not really a complaint, it’s just unclear what you endorse because you like and what you endorse because you’re paid. cheers!

  36. Chris Finney on January 16, 2019 at 8:48 pm

Now that’s a Really Nice setup you got there sir!!

  37. Doug Lane on January 16, 2019 at 8:50 pm

Do you still want to sell the forge? I am in the Asheville area looking for one if you do!

  41. Λαμπρος Ταμβακης on January 16, 2019 at 8:56 pm

    what about your bikes???

  42. Richard McKrell on January 16, 2019 at 8:56 pm

Are you being sponsored by anyone? I noticed your Powermatic link.

  43. Matt Harper on January 16, 2019 at 8:57 pm

I see you no longer have the Shapeoko from your DIY CNC table build. Can you shed some light on how you like the X-Carve over the Shapeoko? I completely understand if it’s a sponsor thing too. I’m in the market and can’t seem to decide. Nothing more confusing that seeing YouTube makers switch from one to the other (you’re the 2nd one I’ve noticed) without an explanation (maybe I missed the explanation video/vlog). Thanks!

  44. CanisSuperious on January 16, 2019 at 8:57 pm

I have a shop question. The only space I have is a one car garage. It’s manageable, however the water heater and central heating furnace are in the garage as well. I am concerned about dust getting to the pilot and causing an explosion. Is that a valid concern? Are there ways to mitigate that or is it not an issue?
    Thanks

  45. Theyrun on January 16, 2019 at 9:02 pm

Is this shop also your job shop?

  46. james nicols on January 16, 2019 at 9:02 pm

    What about the bikes??

  47. Derek Carman on January 16, 2019 at 9:05 pm

How do you afford all of this?

  48. Nelson H. on January 16, 2019 at 9:05 pm

Thanks for taking the time to post this tour Johnny, admire your organization very helpful as I work on plans to set up my first shop. Question if I may… did you consider tying your sander dust collection into your shop-wide overhead piping to eliminate the need for the 2nd Festool dust collector? And by extension, same question for your Kapex? I have similar tools and was hoping to be able to connect these to the shop-wide central dust collector. It’s just not obvious to me yet what the drawbacks/challenges to doing this would be?

    You have my dream shop!
