stanley 9 1/2 block plane restoration
Turning a rusty, frozen up block plane into a useable tool. There is some pitting on the sole, but not bad enough to keep it from performing. This is my first attempt at a full video, enjoy.
You had me up to the point you used vinegar. Nothing good comes after you use it. If you don’t clean the shit off properly it will continue to eat the steel and form rust. Please stop doing this method. I collect vintage tools, so I have seen first hand what it does month later. Use evapo rust or a good quality rust converter fluid.

Nice work. While the plane came apart without much effort, remember WD-40 is designed to displace water and prevent short term rust, it is not designed to act as a penetrating oil for loosening stuck parts. You will have more success with challenging planes using a product like Kroil or PB Blaster. Additionally, there are products far superior to vinegar for removing surface rust without potential damage to the metal that remove rust more quickly and thoroughly. Chelation agents or electrolysis are worth becoming familiar with.
