Stanley vs Irwin Record Plane

Stanley vs Irwin Record Plane

I compare the Stanley 12-005 to the Irwin Record 05 (Not the SP5, but the older version with wooden handles). Both are No.5 jack planes. I bought them both with my own money and I don’t get paid to say what I say (yet).

I bought the stanley. First metal plane. Took me 2 months to get it flat. I’m not joking. But I got it flat. Then I was really happy "holy crap, this plane is a dream now!" then I adjusted the cutting depth. Then the yoke broke.

Ya you are correct Stanley used to be good. Thanks for the review. Went to a menards in USA saw same plane for $19.83 cents tax and all. Think I’m going get it and a block plane from Irwin . Doing minor stuff like cleaning up 2x4s mabye a chamfer on mdf .

I have good luck buying antique "well used, then neglected" planes for cheap.
