And Al’s tip video is heading for 22k views! A lovely gesture from you – very classy. 👌🏼
WD 40 is not a good long term lubricant. Most tools not seeing too much dust, just a hint of light oil is good.
The hook hold down with cordage is a great idea, but use dip it or electrician tape to wrap the hook so it won’t mark your work
The long all-thread rod to square up the table saw fence can actually be used as a micro-adjuster if you replace the plastic knob with a short arm and have it "push the fence." The all-thread is machined at a precise number of threads per inch (for example: 20 tpi), which means that one revolution of the arm will advance the fence 1/20th of an inch (0.05 inches) and 20 revolutions will advance the fence exactly one inch.
The same physical convenience applies to making a home-made router lift … know your bolts and use the threads per inch in bolts and all-threads for many applications.
25 Dec 19, and I just saw Al’s video for the first time Colin. Nice work Mr. Al.
By the way Colin, he now has 2,900+ views on his video. Your plug did the trick, sir. Nice job, Colin.
Al now has 22,635 views as of March 23rd, 2021.
Great tip also, I’m going to share it with my wife, daughter and son-in-law.
Do you have a trick on how to resaw round wood on the table saw?baseball bats and similar.
You already have a miter gage. Lock your block to it and save the little runner asmbely, us a longer guild. If you want it further down the miter gage for more accuracy, add length to the jeg from the miter face.

All tape is pressure sensitive, the more pressure the better it sticks.
So I don’t see how you have actually locked the front of your fence to keep it square? there is a lock on the rear but nothing on the front?
Problem with the saw fence set-up guide is that it only puts the fence parallel to the mitre gauge slot, not necessarily to the blade. On cheap table saws like mine, where the blade tracks up and down on a crank from beneath (this is only supported at one end) the blade does not stay consistently parallel to the mitre slot throughout its travel. This means the mitre slot is useless as a reference. I have resorted to supporting the back end of the blade lift with an adjuster. This sits horizontal in the cabinet and attaches to the unit’s case with a powerful magnet. It has an adjustable thread that allows me to "track" the blade. I can’t begin to tell you how slow your work becomes when you have to go through this every time you raise or lower the blade. It has rendered the tool almost completely useless for me on all but the most agricultural of cuts.
Who is Al?
Al must have loved all the views ( 16K) he received . He did turning tips last month and I enjoyed the shop tips, "especially the drill press ones" he did a few days ago 🙂
👏👏👏🇬🇧
Great info!
Please make a note to viewers about using magnets from microwaves. They have capacitors in them that store electricity that can kill you if accidentally discharged while taking them apart.
I could use a combination square setup but with a right angle on either side. I often use the combo square as a depth gauge and it would great to be able to flip it and use the other as a square. Rarely need the 45 but often a 90.
It is 2021 now and i just watched al’s video, its up to almost 22k views now
Done!
You might be able to use a spring for the cross clamp
It’s faster for me to just measure with a tape

Go to the autp parts store and get "anti seize" lubricant.
I made Cary’s fence guide today and it works great! I can use it on my bandsaw as well as table saw. Thanks, Collin!
Just now seeing this but Al has over 17K views. The power of compound YouTube.
I just went to Al’s video and he had over3200 views. He’s famous now!
If painting, that trick is pretty neat. I’ve used it since I have memory. Now, if you’re just applying wood glue (i.e. titebond I, II or III) simply use a bbq brush. They are made out of a rubberish material. You can either clean it with water right away or just rip it off once the glue is dry. The brush will be like brand new and ready to be re-used. I give credit of that trick to WWMM (woodworking for mere mortals).
ALS vid has 23,247 views as of 26th May 2021! Also a new one posted last month.
no need to lube a t square, simply put a small washer under nut, works great
The table saw rod devise will allow you to repeat a setup quickly. Make a few of them for projects that require you to reset the fence to make more parts. A year later you can get the exact rip you used on a part.
In jointing wood, sometimes a jointer is not squared perfectly, or it’s cheap jointer as mine is. If you were to take two boards that were to be jointed and butt them together, then fold them together with the faces against each other; you can run the two boards as a unit across your jointer and get a perfect joint. This technique works on a table saw as well, but a smoother joint is acquired on a jointer.
Walmart has stepped up third game. They are now carrying Hyper tough and Hart. These seem to be good quality. Squareness is very important. I bring things back if they are covered.
I’m sorry if this was mentioned in another comment. Be extremely careful if you’re taking apart a microwave! They have some killer capacitors in there. Killer being the key word.
Colin, Enjoyed the video. Definitely some useful tips… Thanks for sharing 😉 I wanted to thank you also for referring Al’s video. Appears that he got a bit more than 100-150 views nowadays, huh? 😉 That was an amazing thing you did for him.

This is the stupidest video I have ever watched. This was a waste of 11 minutes of my life.
I’ve been trying to build a cross sled for awhile. The fences keep coming out with slight curves, which makes aligning them at right angles impossible. How can I guarantee that they will be straight?
My drill press has a bad run capacitor. I am a former electronic tech..it is written in Chinese. It is 1960s? model. Looks like the one at Harbor freight. As accuracy is paramount; I’ll use .my power drill Some thoughts here. First great idea. Make sure the block is true and square..Keep the screw rod clean and just a little Wd 40 might be helpful. So I would make sure that I drill as straight as possible. Probably start with a quality 2/8 inch bit and 3/8 stock threaded
rod. Still check the squareness every so often.
1st one is brill. My TS fence is shyte…..I’m forever checking front and back after setting the blade. This idea will make it quicker and accurate. 👍
