Great video! I know this machine is variable speed. Can you tell me what speed you used on the OAK boards? Thank you!

  2. Jayna White on March 18, 2022 at 5:33 pm

I’ve been using this jointer for a while now! I love it. However, this is my second one. My first one died a week into use, right in the middle of a cut. Got it traded out and have had no issues! Been a few months. Hope it stays that way!

  3. Jeff Stanley on March 18, 2022 at 5:33 pm

For edge jointing this is ok. For width jointing not only this one but all jointers just create a problem. That 1 x 4 6 8 10 etc when face jointed is now less than the original nominal 3/4 inch. Now you need a planer too.

  4. Dr. E on March 18, 2022 at 5:33 pm

Been four months! Have you quit YouTube? Love your channel!

  5. Alexandre Lemaire on March 18, 2022 at 5:34 pm

I’ve got a beginner question for you! I’ve noticed in these tutorials that nobody seems to run both edges on the jointer. Is the idea to only do one side and then use it as a reference on a table saw?

  6. Kyle Sanders on March 18, 2022 at 5:36 pm

How long of a board can you joint through that

  7. Tal Jones on March 18, 2022 at 5:36 pm

I have the same one only branded Porter Cable. Wait till you have to change and align the blades on that POS!! I hate mine…

  8. Mike Stephens on March 18, 2022 at 5:39 pm

It’s the same as the Porter Cable I’ve been using foe 3 years.

  9. Steven Tyler on March 18, 2022 at 5:40 pm

    It’s a piece of sh*t outsource sh*t built.

  10. Joel Winter on March 18, 2022 at 5:41 pm

I wonder how the blades do with "squirrely" or figured wood–that would be interesting to investigate–thanks for a great review.

  11. Χ”Χ¨ΧΧœ חיים on March 18, 2022 at 5:42 pm

Good video, good tool. I have got 8" joiner thicknesses , also made from not expensive materials but it’s doing its job, made by femi ( italian company), but it is a generic joiner thicknesses that is manufactur in china. You can sharp the blades!

  12. cole mahaney on March 18, 2022 at 5:42 pm

    Amazon is always over priced

  13. GrottoBot on March 18, 2022 at 5:43 pm

Hope you’re doing well, I enjoy your videos and noticed you haven’t had new ones for a while.

  14. supersope on March 18, 2022 at 5:47 pm

Great review. Fast and no bs… full of the most important information…..

  15. Richard Graham on March 18, 2022 at 5:49 pm

The WEN 6559 6-inch 10-amp is $267.82, and has been that price on Amazon for over a year, so the Craftsman is not the cheapest.

  16. MC's Creations on March 18, 2022 at 5:49 pm

Fantastic review, Jim! Thanks a lot! πŸ˜ƒ
That would be a fantastic addition to my small shop indeed!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! πŸ––πŸ˜Š

  17. Aaron K on March 18, 2022 at 5:57 pm

How easy / hard is it to keep the fence sqaure?

  18. LAZER1981A on March 18, 2022 at 5:57 pm

    Still working well?

  19. Alan McWilliams on March 18, 2022 at 5:57 pm

These planners cannot handle much over the long term. I bought one that had a sizable chunk of the aluminum bed break off in use. I wouldn’t recommend buying one of these

  20. S on March 18, 2022 at 5:57 pm

Your video is the best explanation I’ve ever seen regarding jointers and how they work. Thank you for being straight forward and not skipping any steps. It was perfect!

  21. Jody Montez on March 18, 2022 at 5:58 pm

Can you replace the blades with helical cutters?

  22. Daniel Hill on March 18, 2022 at 5:59 pm

Bought one of these. It crapped out in a few weeks time randomly. Just shut off and never turned back on. Returned to store for another one. That one lasted less than a week. Got my money back on that one. From reading others experience online this is common. I would not recommend. When it works, it is a good little joiner….but both I had stopped working. If you still want to give it a go, make sure the store you buy it from has a good return policy.

  23. Dillon Davis on March 18, 2022 at 5:59 pm

Cheapest one I found was the web sprain cutter head 6inch

  24. Ilan David on March 18, 2022 at 6:00 pm

This looks identical to the porter cable benchtop jointer. PC160JT

  25. Woodnoober on March 18, 2022 at 6:00 pm

That was a very nice review. Pretty thorough without being lengthy. Well done.

A benchtop jointer like this seems like it would be well suited for cabinetry, as long as the pieces didn’t get too long. From face frames to door frames, it seems like it do the job. Not that you’d want to use it in a production environment, but if you were looking to make some shop cabinets or even kitchen or bath cabinets for your own home, this would be a nice tool to have.

That said, reading the other comments, there seems to be a reliability issue.

  26. Timothy Baker on March 18, 2022 at 6:01 pm

I paid $60 for a used version of this only with the Delta badge. I couldn’t be more pleased with it.

  27. Larping Supply on March 18, 2022 at 6:02 pm

Just bought this the other week and needed some justification in my purchase πŸ˜‚ thanks man.

Now only to find time to use it! (Or some reasonably priced wood or pallets for that matter!)

  28. MegaWeagle on March 18, 2022 at 6:03 pm

Got mine used locally for 200. It has worked very well, and I have no regret in buying. I mean would a prefer a long bed 12” jointer sure but that’s what dreams are for this is for getting my projects today done!

  29. Jesse Mitchell on March 18, 2022 at 6:04 pm

    g
Great video. This is the same design and set-up as the Porter-Cable, Delta, King Canada, Griz, so on and so forth, that have been made for a couple decades. Decent units, some with and without speed control.

  30. IRISH MIKE on March 18, 2022 at 6:04 pm

I bought what I think is the same planer. I’ve yet to take it out of the box. My plan is to use it for small projects! Thanks for the insight. Well done!

  31. David Smalley on March 18, 2022 at 6:05 pm

Awesome video, I’m going to get one, thank I’ll like it better than the planer. Love your channel..

  32. En Akers on March 18, 2022 at 6:05 pm

Okay I have to ask where did you get ear protection for your dog? I have been thinking about that for the future!!

  33. ElizabethFranquiEsq on March 18, 2022 at 6:07 pm

So glad you’re back! The guitar build was beautiful – way over my skill set, but I enjoyed watching it. This review is great. I have a good planer and a straight cut jig for my table saw. So I’m windering whether I should wait on a jointer. The low price point is attractive.

  34. Mark Perkins on March 18, 2022 at 6:07 pm

I just bought one of these from Lowes. Setup was fairly easy. Worked great on edging a couple of boards. Turned it on to do the 3rd board and before I could even get the board on the table the motor stopped. Packed it back up and got Lowes to exchange it. Set up the 2nd unit, turned it on, ran for about 10 seconds and it stopped. I didn’t even get started on the board. The control electronics in this thing is a piece of JUNK. Read the Lowes reviews before you purchase one of these. Probably more than 50% of owners have had the same issue – motor controller going bad so be aware of this if you buy this jointer. This same jointer has carried the Porter Cable and Delta names as well. WHY would these companies sell these units with such a poor history it can’t be good for their brand. There are a number of YouTube postings on repairing the speed controller. In general for the small time I used this jointer I liked it. Size is perfect for me and it seemed to do exactly what I wanted. I have actually decided to keep the unit, bypass the internal speed controller and run it with an external PWM controller ordered rom Amazon. BUYER BEWARE!

  35. Inspiring Builds on March 18, 2022 at 6:09 pm

Great to hear it can handle hard wood!

  36. BigMug Bob on March 18, 2022 at 6:10 pm

So you wouldn’t need a planer if you have a jointer it seems like. Very good video

  37. George M. Kokinda Jr. on March 18, 2022 at 6:10 pm

By the way, FYI, Amazon jacked the price up to $389.00 now.

  38. bighead0107 on March 18, 2022 at 6:12 pm

I’ve got the same planer. Except it’s a porter Cable. Made by the same people. Works great so far

  39. Stuart Osborne on March 18, 2022 at 6:13 pm

    Excellent review, thankyou for sharing.

  40. M D on March 18, 2022 at 6:14 pm

This one and benchtop planer which is refer Sir? Looks like benchtop planer craftman is the one. Just pay little more 35 bucks

  41. Jesus Ramirez on March 18, 2022 at 6:16 pm

    Great review

  42. DJ Will on March 18, 2022 at 6:19 pm

unboxed this unit yesterday, ran a couple of boards and today it started making a noise when you turn the unit of.. sounds the the motor is struggling. Anyone else have this issue?

  43. Cheri W on March 18, 2022 at 6:19 pm

Very nice review! Love the dog too!!!

I would be curious how it has held up over the past year. Any chance for an update to this tool?

  47. DC Slapout on March 18, 2022 at 6:24 pm

Sorry for the latness but I thought it was an old vid! Hoping all is well my friend. Good review

  48. frbrable on March 18, 2022 at 6:26 pm

What makes the blades/knives sharpen-able vs. not?

  49. Jonathan Nail on March 18, 2022 at 6:26 pm

This is nearly identical to the Shop Fox 6" spiral – same fence and body, except your’s has the speed regulator (nice). Have you had any issues with fence deflection, especially for longer boards? Even though the fence is square to the table, I can never get a squared reference edge. Like you said in the vid, not meant for longer boards.
