The Woodworker: Preserving the Traditional Art of Japanese Woodworking | The Regulars
Jay van Arsdale’s Bay Area group, Kezurou-kai, is the only foreign chapter recognized by Japan that is dedicated to preserving the traditional woodworking techniques. “I do pretty good for a white boy, but it’s not perfect,” van Arsdale says. “There’s always something I can do a little better.”

You’ll find all the inspiration you need on Woodprix.
They are not preserving anything they are just role playing. Pretending they are somehow involved in Japanese culture.
They would be better of focusing on American traditional woodworking and they could add in a few design details from Japan if they need be.
My husband uses these plans from Stodoys and is very happy with them. However. I love yours!

Enjoy looking at these kinds of talks on traditional woodworking and how much can be done without metal fasteners and the amount of skill and learning it has for joinery.

There most definitely was not a lot more happy places for everybody in the 1950s. In fact, there were way less happy places in the 1950s for quite a few demographics. Obviously, Jay Van Arsdale did not think very much about that comment before he made it. It should have been edited out.
You are a treasure. ありがとうございます
