What is the angle of the cuts on the legs? I tried at 45 degrees but it looked weird. I’ll keep experimenting but was curious what angle you used. Thanks!

Can you please give measurements of all pieces?

  4. Matthias Teepe on May 1, 2022 at 6:46 pm

    Parts list:

    Inches
    2 x 9¼ (bars)
    5 x 8 (top and benches)
    4 x 5½ (legs, diagonal measurement)

    Metric
    2 x 23,5 (bars)
    5 x 20,3 (top and benches)
    4 x 14 (legs, diagonal measurement)

Caution! The legs are cut at a 31,6° angle and NOT 45°!

Why isn’t this in the description?!

Nice project. Finished product looks great.
On a side note, you have your flag displayed backwards.

About 25 years ago I made some tables very similar to this using 1/4" thick strips. Rather than squirrel tables, I cut openings in the table for salt and pepper shakers. They were four 1" strips wide, spaced about 1/8". I never attempted to sell them but gave them as gifts to a few folks.
If I were to make them today, I would definitely use CA glue. I used no fasteners, only glue, so getting the center piece mounted was always a challenge.

Great idea. strong tables Thanks for posting.

  22. Jeremy Caudill on May 1, 2022 at 7:21 pm

I made several of these that look like actual picnic tables and can’t sell a single one. Even tried painting them cool colors that stand out.

Do you sand and polish before you sell?

You do know you can drive nails without a gun right?.. believe it or not nails were used for a very long time, even on small delicate projects, before the nail gun was invented. Also you don’t have to have glue if you’re nailing it, it’s a squirrel table. Either or will work fine, unless you have morbidly obese squirrels.
