Tips for Finishing Jatoba in Woodworking Projects
Tips for Finishing Jatoba in Woodworking Projects
Jatoba is a pretty simple wood to finish. The good news is that a clear, natural finish is just about the best way to do it because it has wonderful natural color, it’s dense, and accepts all types of finishes quite easily. But there are a few ways to elevate and improve that kind of a finish on Jatoba; most importantly by filling the grain. By filling the grain, you’ll get a better finished surface and you’ll add a bit of dimension to your project. This video demonstrates 3 ways to fill the grain before applying your clear finish of choice.

Thanks so much. That was exactly what I needed to know. Wish you had said what stain you used, and wonder if my eyes deceive me or the third one was less red. Again thanks.

Hello sir how are you I jabed from Bangladeshi I need a job can you give me a job please
Glad I found you. I have two large pieces of Jatoba which I am fashioning into sailboat seats. I’ve nearly made myself crazy sanding this stuff. It is so incredibly hard! I had these lines running cross grain that I actually think were from the sawmill. I like to never get then smoothed out and now after so much work I couldn’t get the tiny little pores sanded smooth. Excellent tips. Thanks, Chuck
