Look on Amazon…as we all have learned, they have everything! I ordered some, just to check it out. What I received was THE MOST PERFECT MILLED, KILN DRIED WOOD. POPLAR, MAPLE, PURPLEHEART.
I break down and use a lot of palettes, I got sick of using a hammer so I use a reciprocal saw with a wood and metal blade, and just cut through the nails. You can take apart a palette in no time at all and avoid destroying a lot of the wood by prying it off with a hammer. Only downside is the nails are still in the boards, it’s almost impossible to get them out, and it’s easy to cut into the wood and mess it up when you’re doing this. That being said it’s super fast, and the minor cuts into the boards are better than cracking and breaking half of them when you use a hammer to pull them apart. Personally I like the distressed sort of look that palette wood has and embrace it in my projects. It’s usually really beat up and it can give it a really nice quality if you use it right. Thanks for encouraging people to use free or reclaimed wood, it’s the best!
I just subscribed because Steve Ramsey provides great basic knowledge for beginning wood workers. He explains everything in great detail and with plenty of examples. What a great channel to learn about how to work with wood! I’m so appreciative of all this great information.
Thanks so much, Steve.

"dont be afraid to try something new" My student wallet: Nope

wen video mi pana, me ayudó caleta
wow alot of great info in this vid for noobs like myself 👍🏽
What are those two wood species at the top of the overview picture?
Anyone else watching this for homework 😂
Great video! Thank you for making this!!!
Douglas fir is a fir tree, not a pine! Tho I get it, it’s pretty similar. Definitely both soft.
Just started work at a building supplies warehouse, and theyre helping me with my truck and forklift license.
Im going to be making this my main focus.
Thank you for the video. Helps me understand more
i went to buy some wood and bought tree pieces
Oak or maple, baby!
I love working with pine, but I LOVE cutting cherry wood
Hi Steve, I enjoy all your video but I have a question. Why did you refer to Douglas Fir as pine?
Would Mocknut Hickory be a good choice to make home frames with?
thank you so much for this information I just got a table saw for Christmas and need to make some tables.
Great videos, Steve. What kind of wood should I choose for an outdoor shoe rack?
Hiiii, yesterday I started watching your you-tube channel and end up watching more than 10 videos and still watching them. I love your woodworking basic videos as I am planning to make my bed and kitchen cabinets by myself and found your videos are helpful to pick up right material and right equipment. Also, I was scared from table saw but feeling confident now. I am thinking to use Baltic Birch plywood and stain it for my kitchen cabinets for front panel. But Baltic birch are quite expensive would you suggest any other durable plywood for back panel and side panels as they are not really visible.Thank you for making DIY easy. 🙂
I have been a carpenter for 10 years and still learned alot in this video!
Im a Trekkie as well! love it!
But but… what about particle board?
A+ thanks for the explanation!
What is your opinion of using Poplar as the hardwood in cabinets made with Birch plywood? I’ve read some concerning things about denting and problems with humidity (which we have). On the other hand, some people say they’ve never had a problem with it.
Maaaaan the compressed information the densiti of knowledge given by this dude open my eyes to the bast world of wood working, cheers to spreding the goods
Should you use treated lumber for everything or only for outdoor purposes
Wood = it’s alive
Timber = it’s been cut down
So jealous about lumber yard and home depots are USA compared to EU and specially NL we have pine, pine and more Pine.. Xd
7:15, "In the U.S., at least, it’s fairly inexpensive." 2021…"hold my beer".
In Canada plywood costs about 50 dollars for 12 ply plywood
That 2.50 price tag hahahahah not anymore
I watched this 1 year ago when i started woodworking. None of it made sense
I recisited it today and it seemed like i already knew everything he spoke about.
Which means iv learned so much this year and it all started with Steve Ramsey.

Thank you for giving me inspiration to be somebody.
What’s tapered wood?
This was so helpful! Great structure and explanation!
$2.53 2x4s… WOW this video is dated by that!
Saudações do Brasil! Obrigado, um abraço!
Pine its cheap.
Great video apart from referring to fir and pine as the same thing…
Yeah dude… Get your shit together.
Such lazy video editing.
Unsubbed.
Eucalyptus are not deciduous and is classified as a hard wood.
Another way of telling which tree is which is that soft wood trees have needles and hardwood have broad leaves
$2.50 for a pine 2×4? This video did not age well
Fantastic presentation. Learning a lot from your channel.Cheers from India 🇮🇳.
Hardwoods are actually just angiosperms, which means that there are deciduous softwoods.
I worked mostly with mdf all my high school life and it works for numerous furniture despite its dusty composition and weight..super easy to machine 👊👊
you da man!
MDF is a bad material if we use it for furniture that sometimes contact with water
I’m just learning about woodworking so I don’t get scammed by the carpenter who will do the actual woodworking.
thankyou very much sir for this very informative video
