What The Heck Is …. A Good Shop Apron for Woodworkers

I find that I am much more productive in the workshop if I carry many of the things that I need in a really well designed and durable shop apron. I have tried several brands, but finally found the one that I like the best. Beginning woodworkers should try using an good workshop apron a few times to see if they enjoy the convenience of having marking and measuring devices right at their fingertips. This is one of the videos from our “What the Heck Is… ” video series – these are designed to be short and useful for beginning woodworkers. Our plan is to have many of these available within a short period of time – check out the Playlist.

I’m in the market for a new apron. Thank you for the suggestion!

I totally agree…. I bought one and it’s the best I have ever had

Being I live in the New Orleans area, and currently my shop is not climate controlled it just gets too hot!

I actually have the Jonathan Katz-Moses apron, and I think it’s great, but I get too hot and end up taking it off. I do love the idea of wearing one though.

Great video – thank you sir!

Thanks Paul! I really appreciate it!

I still can’t find a good apron, they all are exactly the same in basic design. Pockets in front of you so they interfere with leaning into your work or table? Why. Every apron has lower front pocket and no vests have clasps where they should be. I am about to learn how to sew canvas.

I am hoping when my wife gets further into leatherwork she’ll make me one 😀

Great review, sir. I have never been an apron guy, but the Katz-Moses apron looks pretty nice.

My daughter bought me a Bucket Boss for my birthday a couple of years ago. It’s comfortable and I like wearing it (when I remember to). The only downside is the open pouches. JK-M’s apron is the same way. The open pouches can catch a lot of saw dust sometimes. But then again, if one had decent dust collection, that wouldn’t be a problem, right?

I miss watching JKM’s videos. Ever since google stopped email notifications of new videos, I never know when someone has posted a new video. By the time I figured out why I wasn’t receiving notifications, it had been weeks since I had watched any new ones. I was so far behind, and I don’t have the time to check every single one of my subscriptions for new videos. The only videos I have watched recently are yours Paul. I had to play catch-up today and watched seven of them.

Thanks again Paul. As always I enjoy your videos. I started wearing a shop apron a little over a year ago and it sure does save time not having to look for those little things you have to hunt for too often. Peace be with you and your wife my fellow woodworker.
