I was surprised at how satisfying those half-laps were on the stretchers. I need to make this bench immediately. First I need to sharpen my tools… Awesome work!

The only time I have ever subscribed because someone put it in their video. It was so cheeky and unexpected I couldn’t help laugh. Thanks for posting this, I don’t care for power tools so I am always looking for hand tool only content. I’m less interested in speed and more in just having fun with the process. You look like you had a lot of fun! Keep it up

Really nice work, I want to do one myself soon. Is there a chance you can add a tool list to the video description? (Including number of clamps) thanks

Video and bench-great job. A materials list and cut sheet would be very helpful for us beginner’s.

Cheat! There was not only one electric powered drill but also one powered by magic… Clickbait!

    Great stuff.

Thanks for making this video. It helps me understand the process for building a roubo by hand.

  9. bighand69 on September 3, 2022 at 12:01 am

The only thing that a person needs is chisels, hand saw and bench plane.

Just FYI if I was to start a channel I would be proud if I did half as well as you did.
We got spoiled by YT. I remember crude vids from years back. Now we expect quality, despite paying nothing.
Very good video, very good audio and very good edit, some good jokes as well.
Hats off sir. By the end you had a new subscriber.

Lol. Przeszedłem wszystkie filmy, a na końcu (właściwie na początku) zaczynasz od przedstawienia się. Ja się wyginam z angielskim a tu rodak xD
    Wielki podziw Panie.

"Look ma, no hands". Made me laugh. Watching you hand planing the top made me thought of the difficulties I had hand planing mine :). Good job anyway, love the result. Are you going to apply some finish on it? If so, which one?

  14. Mike Justice on September 3, 2022 at 12:04 am

When did a power drill become a hand tool?

  15. Dustin F on September 3, 2022 at 12:07 am

What did you use to separate the waste material from the work piece after you cut the grooves at around 10:15ish?

  16. CMR Woodworks & Guitars on September 3, 2022 at 12:10 am

Cool build! I really like the way you cut those two legs to length using only a measuring tape. Such skill! I keep telling myself that I will build something using only handtools. Cool to see you accomplish that. I‘ll give a go one of these days.

  17. Mike Justice on September 3, 2022 at 12:10 am

That’s right, look mommy, can I have a cookie

  18. Shawn Walker on September 3, 2022 at 12:10 am

Dude that encouraging cause it’s something I plan to be doing. I did have a question about the purpose behind the gutter down one side. My guess is clean up and putting tools there for easy use but wasn’t sure.

  19. Gaëtan DUQUESNOY on September 3, 2022 at 12:12 am

    Gosh well done!
Love the “only hand tools” videos! If you can keep making some from time to time that would be truly great!

You are a very smart guy. Your procedures seemed very efficient given the situation.

    Glad i found this channel

Music is actually relaxing unlike the rock and roll country nonsense in other woodworking channels 🤮

  22. SNELGRAVE101 on September 3, 2022 at 12:16 am

Well that certainly looks like a bench that will last a few lifetimes👍 very nice my friend, I have some wood in similar diameter and will be making a bench in the coming weeks so I will "borrow" a couple of tips from you if you don’t mind.

  23. Azahan Rosedy on September 3, 2022 at 12:17 am

Love this video, especially the legs and stretchers assembly!

nice workbench and hand work, sub’d. thanks

  26. Nic Taylor - Woodworking on September 3, 2022 at 12:24 am

Nice work, dude! That bench should serve you well!

  27. greg on September 3, 2022 at 12:24 am

    Considering the real soft wood.
I would’ve made the top and legs more substantial. To compensate for the light wood.

  28. Ken Brownlee on September 3, 2022 at 12:26 am

Really nice video. Great looking bench. One tip for mortise and tenons. Cut the tenon first and then use marking knife to size tenon to mortise.

  29. Jopapa1122 on September 3, 2022 at 12:26 am

Seriously great video! This is the first thing I am trying to build and the size of the bench along with the inexpensive hand tools has made it all the more possible. Thank you!

  34. Wicked wood gaming on September 3, 2022 at 12:32 am

I gotta say man. I make and sell laminated workbenches. And some people, including myself. Prefer a soft wood bench. I do, and I make them on a regular basis. And though I have a shop full of power tools. Ireach for my hand tools more often. (Well except for milling) hahaha

  35. Ahmed Shahen on September 3, 2022 at 12:33 am

Awesome video , great editing, beautiful music, and the woodoworking part is very professional, thank you , looking forward for more 🙂

  39. yanuar on September 3, 2022 at 12:36 am

Great content man, I could not find many videos that use only hand tools. Really appreciate the metric measurement too, finally someone I did it!!

    Very Good

    Nice! Great project!👍👍👍

  42. Joew99001 on September 3, 2022 at 12:39 am

All of the compliments about the bench are well deserved, very solid and particularly orthogonal. I must add a few of my favorite features in the final video: the Brazilian style music in the middle – very smooth, the shaving waterfall – quite nice to have a moment to appreciate for the aesthetics alone and the leg trimming magic – great fun. Keep up the good work.

  49. Clive Leyland on September 3, 2022 at 12:44 am

wont the stretchers prevent the top from expanding or contracting

  50. Fred Hammer on September 3, 2022 at 12:44 am

That’s one massive bench and a hell of a job. You seem to do things thoroughly (both bench and video) and I like that. I would love to see the bench today, with all your tweaks and features.
