Zyliss Vise and Upgrades by Rambling Russ

Zyliss Vise and Upgrades by Rambling Russ

Rambling Russ. I have
been inspired by Gary from “Gary Lundgren Crafts” youtube channel (link below). Let me introduce you to the Zyliss and why you should own one in a small shop. I also will show you the 3 enhancements I have made to mine. I will leave a link to a great demo video so you can see the many different ways to use the Zyliss vise.

Great video Russ. When I was a kid (I probably didn’t even have my first job under my belt) I remember there were two products that I had seen on TV infomercials that always stuck with me: The first was the Fein Multi-tool and the second was the Zyliss vise, although I didn’t remember what the Zyliss vise was called.
Years ago I stumbled on the You Tube video of the Zyliss vise, and I said "that’s it!" Although the video I saw was for the Renovator 10 in 1. After more research I found out that the original is the Zyliss vise who held the original patent.
Fast forward to today, I can now (like pretty much everyone else) afford a Multi tool since they are now within everyone’s budget. I have the Ridgid model which works really great. I have been lucky enough to find the Zyliss vise on all kinds places like Ebay, Offer Up, Craigslist, etc. I now have 4 of them because I can never pass up a good deal. They are really handy for all kinds of uses. Now if I can just find someone selling a Swissrex. That looks like another really cool tool.

Cool helpful video, as always. Actually there’s another version of this vice I think, called the Clark Gripmaster. It was made in USA

If this vise could cook and clean also I might feel I’m cheating on my woman. It’s your workshop mistress hehe lol. Great video 👍

Great video, Russ! I just bought an incomplete model of this vise recently, so came to your channel to find out more on how it’s used. About 6 minutes or so into the video, however, I was pleasantly surprised to see your beautiful dog wander into the shot. What is his/her name, how old, and what breed(s)? Yours is almost identical to my 5-year old, Hazel. She was advertised to us at 5-weeks old as a ‘purebred English golden retriver (sic)’, and as she got older we realized she was none of those things. Our best guess is Yellow Lab mixed with Husky, and I’ve never seen her ‘retrive’ anything. She is a joker and a sweetheart that wins over every human she encounters. Would love to see you post a video on yours sometime.

Thank you Russ. I hope you don’t mind – but I paused your video in the middle and bought one from ebay. I like your enhancements too.

Just ran across your Zyliss video thanks for that, I’m looking to pick one up. Could you “or someone” tell me if it’s true that the newer stock is not as good as the original stock vise? Thanks

I picked up one for $10 in the original box at the GoodWill. Pretty amazing tool. I’d probably add "anti mar" on the clamps that go on the table. I’m using cardboard so I don’t mar up the table that it clamps to. One of the other cool uses is that you can clamp it to a door or 2×4 and push things up or clamp things down.

Have to say, I’m really surprised these aren’t more popular. I have TONS of tools and this is one of the most innovative ones I have.

Great job Russ! I’ve got one of these and getting another. You’re like the amazing grandpa I never met…and I’m probably your age or a little older! Lol 😆 Keep these awesome vids coming.

I own three. One Zyliss and two knockoffs. Paid $7 to $15 at estate sales. Very useful vise as you can move it all over the shop with ease.

I like how portable they are, how easily they adapt and the infinite clamping size ability. I’ve had mine for probably 20 years and paid about $20-25 for it. It even came with the lathe and drill press pieces.
Now you gave me thinking about drilling and countersinking the jaws for screws so I can use my magnetic soft jaws with my Zyliss Vice.

Great video Russ! Thanks for the mention of my channel! In watching this I learned some great new ideas from you for my Zyliss, and some inspiration to see what I can make it do. I think the Zyliss is not given it’s due credit. It’s very handy in portable situations. It’s also light weight! Thanks again Russ!
